Angry at God…
Most of us would agree that we don’t like being classified as “religious” because we see “religious” as something dead and impersonal. For us, Christianity is a life-giving relationship.
Many Christians have a religious approach to the faith life, which leaves them tired from all the effort and eventually disillusioned. I would define religion as “man’s efforts to please or appease God.” The religious never have an accurate view of God and their faith life is based on ignorance and even misinformation.
If you think that God is waiting for us to do more good works, or more repenting in order to please or appease Him, then there’s good reason to assume He’s distant. I believe that one of the reasons that more Christians haven’t made more of an impact in their world is because they have the wrong view of God.
John 10:10 AMPC
The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
When things go wrong in life, do you blame God? When things don’t go the way that you hoped, do you get angry with God?
A few years back I realized that if I never have a reason to be upset with God and there is nothing bad that could ever happen in my life that I could ever blame Him for. God isn’t the one causing death, loss and destruction in our lives – that’s the thief. We tend to forget that we have an enemy (the devil) who is seeking to devour us (1 Peter 5:8). James 4:7 says that we should submit to God but resist the devil. That means that not everything that happens in our lives is from God. God is not the one allowing sickness and death. He isn’t causing suffering. Jesus said that He came to give life in abundance – eternal life! God is not the cause of our problems but the answer to them.
Jesus, as an example, never expressed anger at God. He didn’t have to take some time to deal with issues in His heart towards God because something didn’t go the way He wanted it to. Now, God is big enough to handle your unjust accusations and I don’t think He will get offended at you – after all, He is love and love suffers long and holds no records of wrongs. But, as long as you are blaming God for the mess, or pain in your life, you’re really just showing that you don’t know His true nature.
God is always good. God is always love. God is always faithful. Don’t judge Him based on circumstances but rather look to the Word and allow the Spirit to reveal His true nature to you.
Psalm 34:8 – Amplified Bible Classic
O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good! Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who trusts and takes refuge in Him.
Psalm 136:1 – The Passion Translation
Let everyone thank God, for he is good, and he is easy to please! His tender love for us continues on forever!
Psalm 136:1 – The Passion Translation
Let everyone thank God, for he is good, and he is easy to please! His tender love for us continues on forever!
1 John 4:16 – Amplified Bible Classic
And we know (understand, recognize, are conscious of, by observation and by experience) and believe (adhere to and put faith in and rely on) the love God cherishes for us. God is love, and he who dwells and continues in love dwells and continues in God, and God dwells and continues in him.
Deuteronomy 32:4 – Amplified Bible Classic
He is the Rock, His work is perfect, for all His ways are law and justice. A God of faithfulness without breach or deviation, just and right is He.
1 Corinthians 1:9 – Amplified Bible Classic
God is faithful (reliable, trustworthy, and therefore ever true to His promise, and He can be depended on); by Him you were called into companionship and participation with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Much love,
Shayne
