Overcoming or enduring? – Friday, 17 November

You might be saying, well, if God doesn’t want me to perish then why doesn’t He do something? It’s a valid question which has a simple answer: He has done something – He sent Jesus! When you receive Jesus and discover who you are in Him, you will start to walk out of suffering and into victory.
 
Romans 8:28 is an awesome promise that no matter what happens in our lives, it will work out for our good – we must be expectant of this to work in our lives but we also have to meet the conditions attached to the promise. The verse says “and we know that all things work together for good to them that…”

To them that means you have a part to play. All things don’t just work together for our good; there are conditions to this promise.

Firstly it’s for those who love God, and there are a lot of people who don’t love God. So this promise already excludes a lot of people. Then we see that Romans 8:28 starts off with the Word “and” which is a conjunction, joining what’s about to be said to what has previously been said. So we need to look at the verses before verse 28 to get everything that is connected to this promise.
 
“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the 

Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

We’ve all been in situations when we don’t know what to pray but for the Spirit-filled believer who prays in the Spirit (in tongues), we are never at a loss of what to pray. As we pray in the Spirit, the Spirit is praying through us and He is praying the perfect will of God. As you pray in the Spirit you also open your heart up to receive Words of Knowledge and Wisdom about the situation so that you know what to pray or what to do. If we aren’t making intercession with the Spirit (praying in the Spirit) we are limiting the power of God in our lives and we stifle the promise of all things working together for our good from working in our lives. That’s part of what quenching the Spirit is (1 Thessalonians 5:19). By not praying in the Spirit we suppress the Spirit or prevent Him from moving in our lives. Praying in the Spirit also gives God the open-door to intervene in our lives and move on our behalf. All things should work out for our good – things should work out far better for us than they do for the unbeliever. We may experience similar problems at times, but because we love God and are making intercession in the Spirit we should see things working out in our favour
