You can survive the holidays – Monday, 27 November
At this time of the year you, like a lot of people, may be overloaded with things that are leading to stress, anxiety and fear. It might be a build-up of things throughout the year that are weighing down on you, or it might be holiday stress (family issues, finances etc.). It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the circumstances of life or even overwhelmed when you go to the mall around this time of the year.
Over the next couple of days, we’re going to be looking at stress and how to deal with it. “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” At this time of the year, some people don’t make it through. They give up because they feel that their troubles are far too much to bear. We are not guaranteed a trouble-free life – Jesus told us that we would have tribulation (or trouble) in this world, but just because you have troubling circumstances doesn’t mean you have to be troubled. “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” The Christian life isn’t a trouble-free life but as a Christian, you can live a troubled-free life. Jesus said let not your heart be troubled. That means that you are the one who determines if your heart is troubled or not. Circumstances may be troubling but you do not have to let them trouble you. This year may have been full of troubles, and the holiday season may hold some troubles for you, too, but the good news is that God is with you and is your very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). |
