You’re sitting in authority!
“and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus”
Ephesians 2:6 English Standard Version (ESV)
The Christian life is a life of resting in what Jesus has done for you and enjoying the fruit of His finished work for us. We are resting – ceasing from our efforts to obtain – and are simply receiving His grace (undeserved favour, blessing, acceptance and everything salvation includes) by faith (Romans 5:1).
Being seated with Christ in heavenly places is also a place of authority where we are “far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named” (Ephesians 1:21). We are not trying to obtain authority over demonic forces, neither are we trying to obtain the right to operate in authority. When you say “yes” to Jesus and are born-again you are born into a place of authority. Irrespective of your performance you have authority over all the power of the devil and every demonic power (Luke 10:19). You have the right to exercise that authority because you are a child of God. You have the right to exercise that authority because you have placed faith in Jesus and are now 100% right before God. You cannot earn the right to this kind of authority and you don’t grow in it – you have it simply because you’re an heir of God’s family. It’s not according to your performance and best efforts to live holy but it’s because of your faith in Christ’s perfect work which made you righteous and holy by faith (Romans 5:1-2; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 10:10).
You are now above every negative circumstance! All things are under Jesus’ feet and because you are now in Him, all things are under your feet (Ephesians 1:22)! Don’t see yourself as a victim, and don’t be dominated by what happens to you. You are seated in a place of authority – in fact, you’re in Christ, and He is the highest authority in the universe! You truly are far above it all! Don’t allow the pressures, cares, concerns, problems and issues of the world to dominate you and dictate how you will live your life. You have the right and ability to influence the world.
You are not weak and powerless! You have God-given authority to deal with the demonic and even natural problems that could come your way. God has empowered and enabled you to overcome – His power is available to you! In fact, you are the custodian of God’s power in your life! It’s His power and it is at your disposal.
Read Mark 11:22-24 and consider Jesus’ teaching on how to deal with problems. What does He say we should do in exercising our authority?
