Ask and you will receive

Ask and you will receive

Matthew 7:7 New King James Version (NKJV)
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

Many of us know that verse and would even quote it, but few of us probably really believe it. Why? Because of our experience. We’ve often asked and not seen what we asked for. There have been times when I’ve asked and it seems like it hasn’t come to pass. There have been times when I sought and yet I didn’t seem to get the answer. Sometimes I knocked on doors which seemed to be firmly shut. We should never form our theology around our experiences. God’s Word is true and His Word forms what I believe.

You may have asked and not received and in order to make sense of this verse in the Bible, you’ve interpreted it to mean that you only ask and receive when you ask according to God’s will. While that may sound good, it is not what the Bible teaches.

Matthew 7:7-8 New King James Version (NKJV)
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”

You can’t get more straightforward than what Jesus said. There’s no fine print with a whole paragraph of terms and conditions. It’s pretty straightforward. Faith isn’t complicated. The Bible says that when you ask, you receive. When you seek, you find. When you knock, the doors open for you. Part of the problem is that we give up on asking, or we’re not truly seeking and we honestly aren’t knocking. We “kind of maybe tried it once” and because we’re not seeing what we want to see we blame God and give up. Then we seek to interpret the Word of God by our experience and form our theology around experience and not the Word.

We live in a world which is dominated by experience and senses (what you feel, taste, hear, see and smell). You feel the heat. You feel the cold. You feel sad. You might feel blessed but you cannot see the blessing; you only see the results of the blessing.

Ephesians 1:3 New King James Version (NKJV)
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ”

Whether you feel it or not, you are blessed with all blessings in the Spirit. In your Spirit, you are power-packed and fully loaded! The word says that you should ask, and you will receive. It’s a guarantee. If you ask you will receive. You may not see the answer straight away but your prayer certainly was answered. It may have just been answered in the spirit realm. We will unpack this over the next few days. But when it says, “in Christ Jesus in the heavenly realms,” it’s talking about “in the Spirit”. God is a Spirit, and the answer to your prayer is firstly released into the spiritual realm – but it’s no good stuck there in the spirit, you need it manifested in the physical! It’s already given to you and so now you just need to accept it. You need to take hold of it.
