12 Days of Christmas (& an early ?Christmas gift? for you) - Tuesday, 12 December
Christmas is a time of celebrating the miraculous birth of Jesus and all that this means to us. It’s easy to get caught up in the Christmas hype and the consumerism, and it’s also easy to get caught up in trying to avoid it altogether! I want to encourage you to make time to reflect on what we’re celebrating at this time: the best gift ever – Jesus Christ!

“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”Isaiah 7:14 NKJV

This prophecy from Isaiah foretold the virgin birth of Jesus 700 years before it happened. This verse is quoted in Matthew chapter 1 in the account of Jesus’ birth:

“So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”Matthew 1:22-23 NKJV

Christmas is a miracle – think about it: God coming to save man, as a man (limited in human flesh). And the glorious result of Jesus coming? Peace with God! Eternal salvation! Forgiveness of sin! Lasting joy! Abundant life! And so much more…

Preparing to celebrate Christmas is probably something you don’t usually do. That is why many people celebrate advent. As a family we usually celebrate advent and it’s a special time to read scripture, pray together and focus on the very profound and significant Reason for the season.
